Requests

Request from a Missionary couple

Alfred and Sara Kelley, a missionary couple that Yewell and Yolanda and I know in Santiago,  MX, just south of Monterrey, could use some help locating equipment for the City of Santiago (population about 35,000).  The need is becoming more urgent as Holy Week approaches.  This couple concentrates their ministry on the health and emergency assistance needs of the city as well as communities in poverty.  They have contributed greatly to some pretty remarkable improvements there.

One of their current efforts is to locate some vehicles that can be used for emergency rescue work.  The situation is urgent now because it’s traditional that much of the population of Santiago goes into the nearby, beautiful, mountains to celebrate  Holy Week (Semana Santa).  But they often mix alcohol in these celebrations,  and a lot of accidents result.

Here, when we think of emergency vehicles, we think of pretty sophisticated equipment, but there, even the simplest equipment is a vast improvement.

So there requests are of two types:  1) small buses (or something similar) to take people into the mountains via scheduled trips (in an effort to prevent drinking/driving accidents), and 2) some vehicles to carry rescue equipment into the mountains.

Here they are:

  1. 2 small buses (like small school buses to run on schedule so more people will take the bus rather than drive on their own)
  2. 4-wheel drive pickup
  3. 4 4×4 4-wheeler bikes (called “quads” at times, I think.  I don’t recall that they told me what these are needed for but it’s probably for rescue efforts)

The Kelleys’ notes also say, “emergency response vehicles ‘1st response’ van or truck to rush to accident scene with paramedics.”

If you would, and if you have a chance, please just let someone know about this need.  As we know, we can never be sure when and how God will move someone to respond.
